The Crucible is a play that was written by Arthur Miller in 1952. It is based on the events surrounding the 1692 witch trials of Salem, MA. However, playwright Arthur Miller wrote about the event as an allegory for Senator McCarthy and the "Red Scare," which occurred in the United States in the 1950s. Miller was himself questioned by the House Committee on Un-American Activities in 1956. The play was first performed on Broadway on January 22, 1953.

Study guide questions

Memoir writing is like capturing an image through a camera's lens. It focuses on a moment in one's life. Night is a series of moments that Elie Wiesel shares with us in his struggle to stay alive during the Holocaust......

To incorporate our study of Night with your Global SCRAPBOOK PAGE project, capture a moment from Wiesel's novel that left an impact on you.

*THIS MAY BE AN EXCERPT FROM ONE OF YOUR JOURNAL RESPONSES.

Criteria:
1. This must be one full paragraph.
2. This must use the technique of IMAGERY.
3. This must include a figurative device (SIMILE/METAPHOR/PERSONIFICATION)

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

During the reading of Elie Wiesel’s memoir, Night you will keep a typed reactionary journal (at least one-page in length), so that you will have at least six entries at the end of the unit…..

1.This journal will be a reaction to any reading, image, video, etc., that connects to this unit and experience. At some points you will be directed to react to specific pieces, and at other times expected to react, to feel, to make some connection.

2. This journal will be in electronic, blog format. The writing can be in first person, (but still no second person (you)), and it must connect to the reading of Night.

3. To compliment your written expression, you will be expected to add images to your blog/journal.

4. Other than that, there are no limitations. I am looking for depth of thought and good writing. *I encourage you to respond in a way that is meaningful to you.
