1. How Society Impacted Boys Actions- The society today plays a role on young adults & even adults of the perfect image. As young boys they are exposed to weapons and guns and all of their little shooting games. Watching inappropriate movies corrupted with violence is just one of many examples of how society impacted the boys actions by letting them think that they can turn savage with no supervision around.
2. Human Nature: Is Man Essentially Evil Or Is The Evil Taught?- I think that everyone is born with evil, just like Catholics believe that everyone is born with original sin that is given to us by the devil, but i believe that we do not show or express the evil that is inside of us until we are taught how to express the evil dwelling inside all of us.
3. Simon As A Savior/Christ Figure- Simon can be seen as a Christ figure in the part of the book where he lets the parachute man down from his parachute. The body stuck on the parachute symbolized how the body was stuck in between heaven & hell and it wasn’t until Simon released him from his suffering that he was free to continue onto his afterlife.
#1 IRONY OF END OF NOVEL- The captain finds the boys in the middle of war. The captain thinks that the boys are playing at that they are in the middle of a game. It is ironic because the boys are in the middle of war and at that moment if the officer did not intervene the boys would have killed Ralph. Also it is ironic because like the boys the officer is involved in a war. We are left with a cliffhanger not knowing if the boys will return home safely or weather they too will be victims of war. When the book ends we are left knowing that the boys will be only being safe temporarily.
#2 NATURE: IS MAN ESSENTIALLY EVIL OR IS EVIL TAUGHT?-When the boys are left alone on the island alone they are driven by their appetite and the question comes about is man born evil or is it taught. Man is taught evil because in society you are taught what is acceptable and what is not. It is only human nature that when you are told not to do something you want to do that thing you’re not supposed to even more. If you were to raise a man isolated from the western world you would see that man would not act savage. For example the Native Americans were isolated from the western world and yes they had to kill for their food but they did not take for granted what they were given. They had respect for the animals and for their surroundings. When the boys go hunting they take advantage of the opportunity because they were raised in a society where it is wrong to kill. When they had the opportunity to hunt they essentially raped their prey and acted in a savage manner.
#3 SIMONS AND PIGGY’S DEATH-Both Simon and Piggy’s death show the inner evil in man. Simon and Piggy were both killed savagely with no inner morals. Piggy was viewed as an outcast and because of that it cost him his life. Piggy was the only kid with specs in his class and he was also the only one with asthma. Before Simon died he unlatched the parachute man from the trees like Mary released Jesus from the cross. Simon is portrayed as Jesus in the novel. Like Jesus Simon too was brutally killed as well.
1. HUMAN NATURE: IS MAN ESSENTIALLY EVIL OR IS EVIL TAUGHT? - In certain situations I think that both of them are true and can contribute to how humans react to things. I feel that when born you have some evil in you that if you are provoke you will react in a non-civilized way. But also in another instant your surrounding can also do things you wouldn't normally do. When the boys were on the island one of their first lines were "'We've got to have rules and obey them. After all, we're not savages. We're English, and the English are best at everything.'" But soon after some turned savage because of what was brought out from inside them. As Jack said "there will be no mercy next time."
2. TENDENCY TOWARD ANARCHY - Sometimes in life people want to go against the way things are just so they can gain something. With Anarchy they are going against the rules just like jack and some of the other boys were doing. Jack just had to get his way because he thinks he was better than the others. Soon after though since one boy rebelled the others had to follow in his footsteps because Anarchy spreads. Something bad about it though is that with Anarchy there will be some sort of havoc because there is no order and no organization. Jacks group was the one reeking havoc all over the island.
3. CONTRAST BETWEEN CIVILIZATION / SAVAGERY - Ralph's group of boys were the civilized group, while Jack's group were the savages. Even after most of the boys went into Jack's group, Ralph and his people knew that, that was not the right way to go and he tried to stay with his morals and his inelegance. Jack's group stayed with their appetites and eventually killed 2 kids. They didn't think it was wrong either. Civilization and savagery are the complete opposite in every manner.
1. Human Nature: Is Man Essentially Evil or is Evil Taught?: I believe that man is not born evil or good. I feel that there is a reason that when you are little you can't talk or really show much of how you feel. This is because during that time you have to watch others and learn how they react to things. As you grow older, other people and situations you are put it, influence how you act. In the novel the boys go from being nice civilized english boys to a bunch of savages. Their situation of being stuck on an island and having to do things that will help them survive turned them against using reason and just going with their appetite. This doesn't mean that they were born evil, it means that they did what they felt they needed to do in order to get what they wanted. If they were to really think about it and go with their heart, they would have definitely known what they were doing was wrong, which proves that man is not evil.
Juxtaposition In Novel: I think juxtaposition is a really interesting literary technique that Golding uses. He almost uses it to bring some balance into a picture. Maybe this is a way of him showing that everyone needs to balance out the good and bad in their lives. This technique is used to compare and contrast evil and beauty. An example of this is when the boys are killing the pig, Golding sets the scene filled with flowers and butterflies.
3. Irony At The End Of The Novel: While the boys are all basically in a war trying to kill each other, a navy officer comes to rescue them and asks them if they were in some type of war or something and how he is amazed about how savaged a bunch of British boys have become. The irony behind this is that he himself out in the real world is involved in an actual war.

Simon as a Christ figure Simon is shown to be like Christ throughout the whole book and their are many examples that show this from the beginning of the book all the way to his death at the chapters. 2. Symbolism There is symbolism everywhere in the book and their are plenty of examples. A lot of these symbols also foreshadow like the parachute man dying. 3. Man evil or learned from society. There aren't like legit examples of this in the book but in the article we got with the interviews there are plenty of example from the author and from the interviewer. This is more of an opinion.
1. Human Nature: Is Man Essentially Evil or is Evil Taught? I think that man is taught evil. If people have never seen evil or done evil things, people wouldn’t be prone to have evil thoughts or reactions. If you are brought up in a place of peace and understanding towards others, I think you will react the same way. Our society has many evils, and people tend to act as others. Living in a world of many different people and different circumstances, you learn thought others. The boys knew how they should act, but chose to rebel against what they were taught, and acted like savages.

He doesn’t realize that it is not “fun and games” that they are playing, but trying to kill Ralph. When the officer realizes what the boys were doing, he criticizes them for acting like savages, and trying to hurt each other. 3. Simon and Piggy’s Death: Simon and Piggy’s death show how evil took over. What they had been taught about respect and the right thing to do was no longer suitable for the island. The boy’s morals were different on the island. Without adults they thought whatever they did was acceptable and not punishable. When the boys were finally rescued, they cried because of fear of what they had done. They realized that killing Piggy and Simon was a evil that they would never forget for the rest of their lives.
